Welcome to the Memorial Middle School Wiki!

A Message from the Principal

Stefanie Cedar Shames, Ed.D.

The 2008-2009 school year has ushered in a new era for

Memorial. We offer a wide spectrum of opportunities that

serve to enhance our Middle Years International

Baccalaureate School program with rigor and

relationships. We started the school year in our temporary facility,  but when students return on January 5, 2009 classes will resume in our brand new building!  All students will meet in the gym and their first period teachers will escort them to their first period classes.

The rich history of Memorial began on December 3, 1922,

when Orlando High School officially opened its doors to students.

The building, located on Lake Eola, was both a high school and junior high at first. In 1923, the building was dedicated to the soldiers and sailors of World War I and then renamed Memorial High School. Memorial High started the first Honor Society in Central Florida, as well as the first Student Council.

I invite you to join us as Memorial Soldiers proudly march into our new building and a new, exciting chapter in our history. We are entering a new era of endless possibilities for inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people.

Ms. Alford's - First Period Class: Why was Memorial Middle School moved from Lake Eola to the Catalina area?

Ms. Alford' - Third Period Class: How did OCPS come up with it's current dress code policy?

To 3rd period: First of all there is no apostrophe in "its" when it is used like this. An apostrophe in "it's" means "it is." It is not possessive. Now, onto your question. The dress code was developed at the district level, with input from many groups. The purpose was to establish minimum standards. Each school can then develop additional expectations.

To 1st Period: Thanks for the question. That would be a great topic for you to research!
